Comfort Closet
Temporary Installation at the Canyon View Elementary School field
In Spring 2018, Nemo Miller, a University of Utah Art graduate created a Cry Closet that was designed to relieve the anxiety of students during Finals Week. My project is inspired by Miller’s idea, which is to “design and build a space that is a solution to the problem you’ve identified. Deploy your solution for the public.” My objective of this project is to relieve the stress that my community is experiencing due to Covid-19, political disagreement, family issues, etc. Although I do not know everyone in my community, I would like to contribute a safe space where people could rest and to be assured that someone cares and that they are not alone. This child-like closet is a reminder to others that their feelings are valid and that they should take time to heal themselves physically and emotionally in a place where they feel safe.
