大戲 literally means Cantonese opera. But figuratively, it means people who are acting or being pretentious. When I made these pieces, I was imagining people under political instabilities in Hong Kong, and how they were forced to censor themselves and cloak their true beliefs. Eventually, someone as modest as a fruit seller may need to seek cover behind a painted mask, much like actors in the Cantonese opera; or see themselves disappear entirely.
